As a past President of St. Nicholas Area Preservation, I'd like to welcome you to our neighborhood!
This close-in gem is located along the Southbank of the St. Johns River across from the TIAA Bank Field. If you're at the spot where Atlantic and Beach Blvds. converge, you're in St. Nicholas. The historic St. Nicholas neighborhood is one of the oldest in Florida, and has a rich and interesting history.

Fort San Nicholas was built by the Spanish in 1793 on the site of the present-day athletic fields of Bishop Kenny High School. The triangular battery was extended a few times and changed hands often between the Spanish and British during Florida's colonial period. It was finally abandoned in 1818. Look for the historic marker about the fort in the Atlantic Blvd. median halfway between Kingman Ave. And Holmesdale Rd.
In 1820, citizen's living in the area petitioned the Spanish governor to form a municipality call San Nicholas. The governor denied their request. If he hadn't, Jacksonville may well have been called St. Nicholas! Fortunately, the name stuck for our neighborhood. Close to downtown, San Marco Square, terrific neighbors, and easy access to the rest of the city, I-95 and I-10, I'm sure you agree that St. Nicholas is the perfect place to live!
After about a 10-year hiatus, a handful of committed, passionate neighbors reformed St. Nicholas Area Preservation in 2018. SNAP, is dedicated to "Building community and preserving the historic St. Nicholas neighborhood." Membership in SNAP is 100% voluntary and open to all neighbors.
